Martial Artists Map

I began this project while I was working with my dad on family geneology.  I’ve heard a lot of names  and stories about martial artists bandied about, and I started wondering how if I could map them out in any meaningful way, as we were doing with familial relationships. I was also curious about how the founders of martial arts styles were influenced by each other, and how closely related they all were.  It’s a trip down the rabbit hole every time I work on it, because if I’ve learned anything working on this, it’s that we are all connected much more closely than we realize.

This project is made on a Kumu relationship map, though I don’t know that they envisioned it for anything this complex.  It’s best viewed on a bigger screen, though you can view on your mobile.
